If you’re currently unemployed and it’s critical here are several resources to help!

1. United Way 211

Just call 211. They help with bills/rent and food resources.

2. GovBenefits.gov

They have a comprehensive list of 1,000+ programs for benefits and assistance.

3. Apply for unemployment in your state

Benefits vary based on the state but it might help you out right now. Google unemployment calculator in your state to see what your unemployment benefits could be. There is even a special section for coronavirus. If the website keeps crashing just keep refreshing.

4. HUD.gov

For housing assistance or if you’re at risk of becoming homeless.

*If you need legal help please reach out to Legal Shield. Their services are around $20/month and you get unlimited legal advice like how to handle an eviction notice.  Regardless of what state you’re in, they can help you. I’m sure every state has different laws but I’ve been told that you can’t be evicted if you tried to pay any portion of your rent. Even $1. Granted, I’m not a lawyer and this does not constitute as legal advice but don’t let someone threaten you or force you to leave without the proper paperwork which can take up to 3 months and would require you to do absolutely nothing. But if you’re attempting to pay, even a little then they should work with you. I know some states have stricter rental laws that skew towards the renter and some skew towards the landlord so it does depend on where you live. But don’t get bullied in a time like this. Shelter is very important.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer nor is this legal advice. Reach out to Legal Shield if you need further assistance.

*If you need a new resume, Resumes That Gets Jobs is offering $100 off an already low price with discounts for military, doctors, nurses, and those directly affected by Covid 19.

More tips coming for small businesses but here are a few tips from the #VGBsquad:

Switch things up in your business by moving to online virtual classes and offerings. Are you an artist? Think about ways to make your art more accessible to others at lower costs via coloring printables or at home crafting lessons, for example. Make a product? Add shipping or pick up to options available and remind your community of ways they can support you as a local small business by providing some things they need.
