Talk about a true retreat with amazing views and the friendliest staff you will ever meet! Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is where we decided to stay our last few days in Hilton Head and it was perfection! If you ever want to book a vacation, no matter the time of the year, we highly recommend you head South East to the Sonesta. After 20 years of visiting this Island, this resort is at the top of my list of where I am going to stay from now on.
Immediately, walking into the lobby, we knew we made the right choice. It was decorated beautifully and the vibe it gave off was trendy, relaxing, and exciting. Trendy because of the décor and light fixtures, relaxing because of the lighting and friendly vibes the welcoming staff gave us, and exciting because you feel like you are somewhere special, and one-of-a-kind.
I recently found out that this destination was host for ABC’s the Bachelorette in 2017 and that was not surprising at all. Everything about this resort is gorgeous. We didn’t want to leave, and it’s been on my mind since we left. I need to get back there asap!
I am so excited to share with you my favorite things about the Sonesta Resort, HHI.
Why We Love the Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
Our rooms were extremely comfortable, spacious, modern, and clean! The beds were lush, the television was huge, and we even had a Keurig with K-Cups and a mini fridge. The bathrooms offered tons of counter space with amazing lighting. And let’s not forget about the view! The view was beautiful with a private seating area on the balcony. We overlooked the pool surrounded with palm trees, two ponds, and then the gorgeous expansive ocean. Each morning I woke up to the most beautiful sunrises over the ocean thanks to the Sonesta.
The little luxuries made this room one of a kind. When the lights are off and you hop out of the bed, there is ground lighting that lightly dims the floor so you can see where you are going without turning on a light! The beds were extremely comfortable, with extra pillows. There is a robe for your leisure moments, and I promise you, you will want to get cozy in these rooms.
From the moment you walk into the beautifully decorated lobby, to your room, to the lounge, you will see the ocean! This Resort allows you to walk along palm tree lined sidewalks, a small bridge to a covered pavilion onto a private access beach. The white sand and clean beaches are truly a sight to see in the South.
The Sonesta Resort’s zero entry walk in swimming pool is great for children and adults. It is huge with the tropical feel you are looking for on vacation. There are hammocks, huge recliners with pillows, chairs, tables, and everything you need to get comfortable and stay outside a while. Someone decided to light a fire pit up while we were there. While lounging at the pool, you have a view of the ocean which is nice. I felt like I was somewhere far far away on a deserted island. Not at a Resort in the domestic United States. All the luxuries without the hassle of a long travel time!
Bike rentals are a must when visiting Hilton Head Island. This place is designed for you and your friends and family to discover the island on bikes. There are bike paths that stretch you from ocean access points, to restaurants and shopping centers. Sonesta makes it easy to rent a bike and start your adventure.
The Sonesta Resort offers so many recreation activities it will be hard to choose. They will help you book golf, tennis, boating adventures, kayaking, fishing, paddle boarding, and many more awesome activities.
My favorite thing to do is to simply walk on the beach and enjoy the view and take in the smells and sounds. I always leave my mark in the sand before I go!
I have met a lot of accommodating and friendly people during my travels, but Sonesta’s staff wins my vote on friendliest and most helpful. To the woman who checked us in, Amy, to the gentlemen that helped us with our bags, every single staff member put a smile on our faces. They made each morning, day, and night better by being so kind to us. I wanted to go hang out with most of them because they were all so funny and smart. I seriously made friends on this trip with the Sonesta staff. If you want to feel important and like you are rock star, this team will do it!
If you are looking for an activity less physical book an appointment at the Arum Spa. Lizzie was my massage therapist and I had the most relaxing and enjoyable spa treatment. I recommend the Arum massage, with the hot stone and oil scalp treatment. I felt like a million bucks when I walked out of my treatment. To top it off, and make the experience even more special they offered me a complimentary foot scrub and glass of lavender champagne. Everything was so calming and soothing, and the décor was beautiful.
Oh, how we love our food when we travel!
Let’s start with breakfast. Whether you order off the menu or from the breakfast buffet, it is delicious! Our waiter was friendly and funny, I laughed many times throughout our breakfast. He set the mood for a terrific day. The buffet offered everything from eggs, fruit, scrumptious pastries, to the best waffle bar I have ever seen. You start with pouring proportioned waffle batter into the waffle maker and then there was fresh fruit toppings, whipped cream, strawberry preserves, to banana’s foster. It was delicious! It is very easy to go all out here or eat extremely healthy because of all the options. Our waiter made me a Café Mocha that went with our amazing meal perfectly.
Lunch and dinner were just as divine. We tried everything from brussels sprouts to penne chicken and artichoke pasta! The desserts were amazing. Our favorite was the crème brulee and carrot cake bread pudding. There was something for everyone on the room service menu which made it easy for us after long days on the Island. The best part was it took less that 30 minutes to get our food and it was perfection.
If you want to get out of your room, Sonesta Resort offers many different restaurants for both indoor and outdoor dining. Your options include Heyward’s, Seacrest Terrace and Patio, Bayley’s Bar and Terrace, and Sweet Cane Bar and Grille.
In the lobby, you will find a Bayley’s Bar that has alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea, and soda’s. It is a really nice set up and as mentioned earlier, the lobby is beautifully decorated so it’s a nice option to relax and have a drink.
The Sonesta Resort offers a 24 hour fitness center, concierge, complimentary shuttle service around Shipyard Plantation, Just Us Kids program to name a few.
With everything noted, it is more than the words that make Sonesta special. It is the experience that they offer each individual as they walk through the door. Beauty lurks around every corner. The breathtaking views and the feel of isolation but with all the amenities and amazing staff are truly the heart of this resort.
Every time I visit HHI, the Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head will definitely be my spot. I highly recommend that you pack your bags, no matter what time of year it is and head their way. I don’t make many promises, but I promise you…you will have a relaxing and magical time here.
