The Ultimate Macon, Georgia Food Guide: Where to Eat, Drink, and Grab Cocktails in Macon
I honestly did not expect Macon, Georgia, to have THIS good of a food scene.
Like, yes, I expected Southern comfort food and music history.
What I didn’t expect was:
- hidden cocktail bars
- rooftop drinks
- insanely good seafood
- creative Southern fusion restaurants
- trendy downtown spots
- espresso martinis
- speakeasies
- iconic music-history restaurants
- some of the best shrimp and grits I’ve had in a long time
And honestly? That’s what made Macon so fun.
The city somehow balances:
- historic Southern charm
- music history
- local restaurants
- cool downtown energy
- and genuinely GOOD food
without feeling overly touristy or commercialized.
If you’re planning a weekend in Macon, these are the places absolutely worth adding to your list.
Best Breakfast Spots in Macon, Georgia

H&H Restaurant
If you visit Macon and DON’T stop at H&H Restaurant, you’re doing it wrong.
H&H became famous because “Mama Louise” Hudson and Inez Hill helped feed The Allman Brothers Band during their early Macon years when the band barely had money to eat.
Today, the walls are covered in memorabilia, music history, and the whole place still feels like part restaurant, part Southern rock time capsule.
This is not the place to order basic and move on.
What to order:
- Soul Rolls
- Fried green tomatoes
- Allman Brothers-inspired menu items
- Southern breakfast plates
- Fried chicken
- Meat-and-three plates
The Soul Rolls are the move — egg rolls filled with fried chicken, pimento cheese, and collard greens served with peach chili sauce.
Honestly? Sitting there listening to the music immediately brought me back to my dad.
It didn’t feel like a tourist stop.
It felt personal.
Macon Bagels
Perfect easy breakfast stop before heading home.
Great for:
- fresh bagels
- pastries

It’s named after the owner’s grandmother, which somehow makes it feel even more personal and cozy.

Best Dinner Restaurants in Macon, Georgia
Kudzu Seafood Company
Kudzu Seafood Company was one of our favorite meals of the trip.
It has that casual-but-cool downtown atmosphere while still feeling elevated enough for cocktails and dinner photos.
The menu is very Southern seafood meets Gulf Coast comfort food. And they can back it up!

What we loved:
- char-grilled oysters
- BBQ shrimp and cheese grits
- Cajun scallops with Tasso cheese grits
- seafood pasta
- lobster grilled cheese
- po’ boys
The BBQ shrimp and grits were probably one of my favorite meals of the entire trip.
And the oysters? Absolutely order those for the table.
Kinjo Kitchen + Cocktails
Kinjo was one of the coolest dinner spots we visited in Macon, and honestly felt way more elevated and trendy than you’d expect to find there.
The restaurant blends Asian-inspired dishes with Southern influences and has such a fun downtown atmosphere without feeling overly pretentious.
What we loved:
- sushi rolls
- shareable small plates
- creative cocktails
- elevated Asian-inspired dishes
But the coolest part? There’s a hidden speakeasy downstairs underneath the restaurant.
And honestly, it’s EXACTLY the kind of unexpected hidden-gem detail that made us realize Macon is way cooler than people think.
It gave the whole night that:
“wait… how do more people not know about this place?” energy.

Loom
Located inside Hotel Forty Five, Loom was one of our favorite dinner spots of the trip.
The restaurant feels upscale while still keeping that relaxed Southern energy Macon does so well.
Perfect for:
- cocktails
- shareable appetizers
- slow dinners
- rooftop-adjacent vibes
- elevated Southern dining
The atmosphere alone makes it worth visiting.
The Rookery
The Rookery is one of those classic Macon staples that feels very local in the best way.
Known for:
- burgers
- fries
- milkshakes
- comfort food
- laid-back atmosphere
Perfect casual family dinner spot downtown.
Best Cocktails & Nightlife in Macon, Georgia
@verbalgoldblog Did someone say girls trip? Macon, GA should always be on the list!! Pro tip: grab drinks at and order the porn star martini #sponsored #visitmacon #maconga #macon #girlstrip #martini ♬ original sound – AdY | Atlanta & Travel

The Rose Room
One thing Macon surprised us with? The cocktail scene. I’m legitimately contemplating driving back just for the Porn Star Martini.
The Rose Room was one of our favorite spots for:
- espresso martinis
- girls dinner photos
- wine nights
- cocktails before dinner
- late-night drinks downtown
The vibe feels upscale without trying too hard.
And if you go, order the Porn Star Martini. It was made with vanilla vodka, passionfruit, lime, prosecco, and topped with passionfruit popping boba pearls that honestly made the whole drink. Sweet, fruity, bubbly, and very much “girls trip cocktail energy.” It’s the kind of cocktail everyone orders one of after seeing it hit the table.

Switch
Switch is one of those places that immediately makes a night more fun.
The themed cocktail bar changes throughout the year and has such a fun downtown atmosphere.
Especially during Christmas season.

Late Nite
Late Nite was one of the most fun bars we visited in Macon. We barely have any photographic evidence. lol
Think:
- karaoke
- late-night cocktails
- downtown nightlife
- casual group energy
- the kind of place that turns into a much later night than planned
Perfect post-dinner stop if you want something more laid-back and fun instead of upscale cocktails.
Macon surprised me so much.
I expected good Southern food.
What I didn’t expect was how COOL the restaurant and cocktail scene would feel.
Between hidden speakeasies, rooftop cocktails, iconic music-history restaurants, seafood spots, Southern comfort food, and local downtown gems, Macon genuinely feels like one of the most underrated food cities in Georgia.
And somehow it still feels authentic instead of overly curated for tourists.
Which honestly made me love it even more. We can’t wait to go back!
