Her Body Can Visit the Farm: A Body-Positive Kids’ Book

“Her Body Can Visit the Farm”: A Body Positive and Inclusive Children’s Book About Confidence and Courage

Her Body Can Visit the Farm is the newest addition to the bestselling Her Body Can series, and it’s filled with self-love, real animals, and deeper meaning for every child. If you’re new here, welcome. I’m Ady — a mom, an author, and a firm believer that every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and celebrated. And if you’ve been with me since the original Her Body Can launched and made its way into hearts and bookshelves around the world, thank you. That little book changed everything. It went viral, was featured in Glamour, and got picked up in multiple languages. But more than that, it started a movement.

Today, I am honored (and let’s be honest—giddy!) to introduce the next chapter in the Body Can Books series: Her Body Can Visit the Farm.

A Story That Sprouted from Soil and Soul

This book began as a love letter to the farm that helped raise my son. My cousin Jesse and Uncle Arte run a real-life mini animal farm in Gibson, Georgia, called Beall Springs Farm. It’s whimsical, rugged, and full of life—the kind of place that teaches kids how to be gentle and wild all at once.

About Boutique Minis at Beall Springs Farm
Nestled in Gibson, Georgia, Boutique Minis is a charming mini-animal farm created by neighbors-turned-family, Ashley and Jesse, alongside their supportive husbands, Philip and Arte. What started as a shared love for animals quickly grew into a full-fledged sanctuary filled with mini cows, ponies, goats, horses, and a big-hearted mission.

At Boutique Minis, every animal has a name, a story, and a whole lot of personality. They also rescue horses from kill shelters across the country, offering them a second chance at life, healing, and love. Visitors can schedule farm visits, book mobile petting zoos, enjoy photo sessions, or simply experience the magic of cuddles and connection. Whether you’re meeting a three-legged goat, feeding carrots to a mini cow, or hugging a rescue horse, you’re stepping into a story of compassion, care, and joy.

Themes in Her Body Can Visit the Farm

On the surface, Her Body Can Visit the Farm is a joyful romp through a day on the farm. There are ponies and fainting goats, mini cows and muddy four-wheelers. But look closer, and you’ll see that each scene holds a deeper meaning, a gentle truth, and an empowering message:

  • Self-expression and choice
She wears what makes her feel confident, not what’s expected or traditionally “girly.” Whether it’s muddy boots, a twirly dress, or overalls covered in hay, this choice reminds readers that style is personal, and the freedom to express yourself starts early. Her clothes don’t define her spirit, her spirit defines how she wears them.
  • Emotional resilience
When she feels nervous to meet new friends, she pauses, takes a deep breath, and tries anyway. That quiet moment of bravery highlights an essential truth: courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s choosing to move forward despite it. It models emotional regulation, self-trust, and the confidence to show up even when your heart is fluttering.

  • Neurodiversity and communication
One of the most powerful moments in the book is when joy is shared, without a single word. This is a nod to nonverbal children and a celebration of the many beautiful ways people communicate. Smiles, gestures, presence, and connection all matter. Every child deserves to feel included, heard, and understood, even without speaking.

  • Disability and inclusion
Tres, the three-legged goat, isn’t just part of the story; he’s part of the message. He was born with a limb difference and raised by hand after being rejected by his mom. Yet he runs, plays, cuddles, and connects just like everyone else. His presence reminds kids that differences are not limitations, and all bodies are worthy of love, friendship, and a place to belong.
her body can visit the farm soft bellies
  • Body acceptance
As she feeds the mini cows their carrots and hay, she notices their soft, round bellies. There’s no judgment—just observation and appreciation. This quiet moment gently teaches kids that bellies come in all shapes, that food is fuel, and that round, soft, or squishy bodies are not just normal, they’re good. Because that’s where the food goes. Simple, true, and powerful.
  • Bravery and physical confidence
She climbs tall haystacks, races through mud on a four-wheeler, and jumps in with joy, not because she’s fearless, but because she feels free. These moments challenge gender norms that tell girls to stay clean, quiet, or careful. Here, girls are encouraged to get messy, move boldly, and take up space with confidence. There’s no one way to be a girl, and adventure isn’t just for boys.

Each line may rhyme like a playful sing-song, but the undertone is steady: Her body is hers. And it can do amazing things.

Why Inclusivity Matters

Representation matters, especially for young girls.

Her Body Can Visit the Farm was written to show girls what’s possible when they’re free to be strong, brave, messy, curious, loud, quiet, gentle, wild, and everything in between. The main character isn’t defined by body size or appearance; she climbs haystacks, races four-wheelers, wears overalls, feels big feelings, and shows up exactly as she is.

Because girls deserve to see themselves in literature, not just as sidekicks or background characters, and not only if they’re straight-sized, flawless, or soft-spoken. They deserve stories where they’re the main character… and where their power isn’t tied to how they look.

This book also includes meaningful nods to kids who communicate differently. One line, “no words are needed to see the joy all around,” was written with nonverbal children in mind, affirming that all forms of communication are valid and beautiful.

And then there’s Tres, the real-life three-legged goat featured in the story. He reminds us that all bodies are unique and complete.

Because inclusivity isn’t a box to check. It’s a commitment. And in this book, every child gets to see what their body can do.

The Heart Behind the Haystack

There’s a scene in the book where the little girl climbs a big haystack and jumps down with joy. That’s not just a fun farm moment, it’s a metaphor. For taking up space. For letting go. For remembering that joy is a birthright, not a reward.

It echoes another favorite line from the book: Even when little, she still stands tall.

So often, girls are told to shrink, to be small, quiet, polite. But not here. At the farm, and in this story, she’s loud, she’s free, she’s muddy, she’s bold. And that’s exactly the message I want every reader to carry into the world.

The Real Animals Behind the Pages

Many of the animals you see in the book are real residents of Boutique Minis, including:

  • Annie, the spirited mini pony with one blue eye and one brown eye.
  • Tres, the cuddly three-legged goat who follows kids around for attention.
  • Marshmallow, the fainting goat, who startles, topples, and always gets back up.
  • Rip, Jolene, and Gypsy, our playful, round-bellied mini cows who love snacks, scratches, and skipping around the pasture.

Each of them brings a unique energy and charm to the farm and to the story. They are more than animals. They are characters, metaphors, and little messengers of joy.
