Why Hotel Forty Five Is the Best Place to Stay in Macon, Georgia
I’ve stayed at a lot of boutique hotels over the years, and Hotel Forty Five instantly became one of my favorite stays in Georgia.
Not just because it’s pretty.
Because it actually enhances your entire trip.
The location, the rooftop bar, the restaurants, the walkability, the coffee shop downstairs, the vibe… everything about it makes Macon feel cooler, easier, and more elevated.
If you’re planning a girls’ trip, couples getaway, or weekend in Macon, this is 100% where I’d stay again.
And after spending a few days there, I genuinely don’t think there’s a better location in the city.

The Location Is Perfect
One of the biggest reasons I loved Hotel Forty Five is that you can walk almost everywhere downtown.
That completely changed the trip for us.
We parked with valet, checked in, and barely needed the car again the rest of the weekend.
Some of our favorite spots were literally steps away, including:
- The Rose Room
- The Otis Redding Museum
- The Otis Redding Foundation is directly across the street
- rooftop bars
- restaurants
- downtown boutiques
- murals
- breweries
- live music spots
- Switch
- shopping
Macon has this really cool walkable downtown energy that I wasn’t expecting, and staying at Hotel Forty Five puts you right in the middle of it.

The Rooftop Bar Alone Makes It Worth Staying Here
One thing I somehow didn’t expect from Macon? A genuinely GOOD rooftop bar.
Hotel Forty Five’s rooftop bar, Hightales, ended up being one of our favorite parts of the entire trip.
The vibe feels moody, elevated, and fun without trying too hard.
You’ve got:
- rooftop views over downtown Macon
- cocktails
- lounge seating
- music
- girls-night energy
- that “one more drink before bed” atmosphere
We found ourselves going up there multiple times throughout the trip because it was just easy.
That’s the thing about this hotel. Everything flows well.
You can grab dinner downstairs, go upstairs for rooftop drinks, walk to cocktail bars nearby, and end the night without needing to coordinate a whole plan.
Loom Restaurant Is Inside the Hotel
And this is important because Loom isn’t just “hotel restaurant good.”
It’s ACTUALLY good.
Loom Comfort Kitchen & Cocktails is located right inside Hotel Forty Five and ended up being one of the standout meals of our trip.
The restaurant feels upscale Southern with a modern twist, and the atmosphere matches the rest of the hotel perfectly.

Some of our favorite things we ordered:
- shrimp and grits
- oysters
- gnocchi
- steak dinners
- roasted carrots
- cocktails and wine
The food feels elevated without being pretentious.
Like somewhere you could wear heels and order cocktails with the girls… or show up casually after exploring downtown all day.
The Coffee Shop Downstairs Was Such a Nice Touch
One thing I loved about Hotel Forty Five is that it feels designed for an actual weekend away.
Not just a place to sleep.
There’s a coffee and wine bar right downstairs called Reckon Coffee Bar, which became our morning stop before heading out for the day.
And as someone who travels constantly, little conveniences like this make a huge difference.
Being able to:
- grab coffee downstairs
- sit in the lobby
- recharge between plans
- walk back to the room quickly
- freshen up before dinner
made the entire weekend feel relaxed instead of rushed.

The Rooms Felt Thoughtfully Designed
The rooms felt boutique and cozy while still being functional.
And YES — this matters to me.
I need:
- good lighting
- space to get ready
- outlets where they actually make sense
- room for makeup/skincare
- counter space
- comfortable beds
- a layout that doesn’t feel cramped
Hotel Forty Five nailed that balance.
The design feels modern and stylish without trying too hard, and the rooms had enough counter space and functionality that it actually worked for a girls’ trip.
Which, surprisingly, a lot of boutique hotels miss.

The Hotel Fits Macon Perfectly
What I liked most about Hotel Forty Five is that it actually feels connected to Macon instead of feeling like a generic hotel dropped into the city.
The property leans into Macon’s music history, textile history, and Southern roots while still feeling modern and cool.
And the second you walk in, you can feel that personality.
It has soul.
Which honestly matches Macon perfectly.
Final Thoughts on Hotel Forty Five

And Hotel Forty Five was a huge reason why.
