Guide to Summer Reading Take 2 + Psychological Thrillers

girl on the train book

Our first summer book post was such a hit; we decided to give you more. Now I’m hooked on psychological thrillers right now so I am going to share with you my favorite page-turners.

The BEST book of the summer and I can’t tell enough people about it is Girl On The Train. It is so much better than Gone Girl (don’t get me wrong, Gone Girl was a good read) but you won’t be able to put this one down. I read it in 48 hours. Just read it and you’ll understand.

On my quest to find a book as good as Girl on the Train, here’s my list so far:

  • The Good Girl by Mary Kubica – This book won’t get you hooked but you’ll want to keep reading to figure out exactly what happened. There are several characters and each chapter is written from a different person’s perspective so you have to keep up with who is talking. One part will have you saying “NOOOO” out loud.
  • The Stranger by Harlan Coben – I was introduced to Harlan Coben years ago and he is my go to when I just want to read a book. You won’t be disappointed by anything he writes. This conspiracy will change this suburban family forever.
  • Gone Girl, Dark Places and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn: These will leave you thinking wtf and thankful for your “normal life” but great reads and must reads. Pick up a happy book in between by Elin Hilderbrand or Jennifer Weiner for an easy read.

When I was on a hunt for summer books, this book post was shared with me since it’s right up my alley and how perfect is the title, “12 Books To Read If You Loved ‘The Girl On The Train’ (That Aren’t ‘Gone Girl’).

I’m always looking for good book recommendations, what are you reading?

    • Hi Sarah! It was a good book, just not as intense as what I was looking for. Try The Wicked Girls, that is next on my list. What have been your favorite books this summer?

  • I think I read Girl on the Train in 3 days, so right there with you! I don't think I would read it again, but it was definitely a great thriller! I still have yet to read Gone Girl (I know, I know…), so I will definitely be adding some of these suggestions to my growing thrillers-to-read list as well!

    • Hey Alyssa! I find it hard to go back and read a book twice anyway. Unless maybe I forgot I already read it once 😉 Glad we were able to help you add some books to your to-read list. I need to get on mine, I've been slacking lately.

  • I just got done reading Girl on the Train a couple of weeks ago and I was just as thrilled and floored over it as you were. I work at a call center and read the books in between calls and I would get so annoyed when a call came in (I know horrible!!! lol) It was definitely an unexpected ending and one that I never saw coming. I have to agree that Gone Girl just did not compare to this book. Huge fan of psych thrillers and will check out your other suggestions! Thanks 🙂

    • Zoe! I'm so glad you share my same enthusiasm for Girl On The Train! Let me know if you find a book that can even compete with it. Just downloaded The Wicked Girls to read on the plane. Hope you enjoy the other reads.
