Our Stay at Avila Beach Hotel in Curacao

My bucket list this year is to visit every Caribbean island so I’ve made it my mission and have loved exploring each island! I love the Caribbean because it’s close to the US so it’s a quick flight, affordable, they have bright blue and crystal clear waters, and have that tropical feel that just makes you feel like you’re on vacation!

Curacao has been on my list for a while so I’m so glad I was able to visit! My husband and I went in March for our babymoon and it was perfect! We choose to stay at the Avila Beach Hotel because of the proximity to the city, the history, and it’s beachfront beauty! I’m obsessed with the lagoons they’ve made on each side that make it so nice to have a relaxing swim!

Check out our stay at the Avila Beach Hotel below and why you should book your next trip!

Hotel + Rooms

Avila Beach Hotel is a centrally located luxury beachfront resort with an authentic soul! Filed under affordable luxury this beach hotel is perfect for everyone. I found that the rooms are extremely affordable and you can even upgrade to a gorgeous upgraded suite or a spacious 2 – 3 bedroom apartment with a private beach. It’s the perfect option for those traveling with large families or groups.

Being the oldest operational hotel in Curacao, The Avila has been witness to hundreds of years of the island’s history and has also hosted important characters. More than just a place to sleep, this hotel is an important landmark with a myriad of stories hidden between its walls.

The original building of the hotel, the Belle Alliance (now main entrance and lobby) was built around 1780! That is mind-blowing to me. On February 1, 1949, the Avila Beach Hotel opened its doors. Before it was a hotel it was a governor’s home, boys boarding school, and a private clinic. Back then, Doctor Gungu Maal founded the Avila Beach Hotel counting 20 hotel rooms in total. Nowadays, the Avila Beach Hotel has almost 150 rooms divided over 3 completely different hotel wings.

More than that, the hotel offers rooms for every type of traveler, including some seriously cozy beach-front rooms (many of which are wheelchair-accessible) as well as apartments if you prefer that homey feeling.

When you’re not exploring Curacao, lounging by the pool, or taking in the sun, you can head over to their outdoor wellness center for some seriously relaxing treatments that will leave you refreshed (and isn’t that what a Caribbean vacay is all about?)

Food + Bevs

At Avila, food is so much more than just a meal. Boasting some of the best restaurants on the island, it’s easy to see that this resort takes food seriously. If dining at open-air restaurants gets boring, you can also request a romantic candlelit dinner on the beach or head over to the beach and pools bar for some seriously refreshing cocktails.

They don’t have a room service menu but you can order from any of the restaurants and either pick up food or request delivery. They were very accommodating. Because you guys know I live for room service!

The Pen: A cozy semi open-air restaurant offering the best of Caribbean flavors made with locally-sourced ingredients that you’ll love!

Blues Bar & Restaurant: Overlooking the stunning blues of the Caribbean, this fun bar is the perfect setting to grab a drink, sit back, and enjoy the jazz bands that liven up the atmosphere.  Specializes in BBQ.  Make sure to make a reservation for Thursday to hear a live jazz band play above you while surrounded by ocean views!

Avila Café: You know you’re on holiday when you head to the restaurant and see a humongous buffet waiting for you to dive in. The perfect place for breakfast!

Pool Bar: Choose from their endless assortment of tropical cocktails, sit back, and soak up the Caribbean sun before plunging into the pool.

Beach Bar: No vacation is complete without grabbing a drink with views of the crystal-clear waters of Curacao. The bar also offers local wine produced in Curacao and scrumptious Caribbean food like Kashi Yena, a delicious dish that you need to try!

Beach + Pool

Offering a private strip of white sand beach, you’ll love spending hours lounging in front of the beach or swimming beneath the crystal clear waters that make Curacao such a sought after destination. Obviously, there’s a beach bar offering delicious tropical drinks, local wine, and regional dishes. The two lagoons make swimming such a relaxing experience! The infinity pool set right off the beach overlooks the ocean and couldn’t be more perfect.

Budget Car Rental: Probably the most convenient and my favorite amenity they have on site. My husband and I rented an SUV day of to explore the island for around $70 and it was perfect and so easy! Curacao is a perfect destination to discover by car. Mainly the beaches in ’’Westpunt’’ are not to be missed…so we definitely encourage you to get out and explore the island. In the hotel lobby, you can find a knowledgeable employee representative of Budget Car Rental Curacao.
