Planning a trip to Bali? How exciting! We fell hard for this island, and even though there are already a gazillion resources on Bali all over the internet, we thought we’d write our own.

Planning a trip to Bali isn’t hard, but there’s just so much to do in this dreamy island that choosing where to stay or picking what activities to add to your itinerary gets a bit tricky. On this post, we’ll go through our travel planning tips on booking the perfect Bali vacation as well as give you tips on where to stay!

Bali brims with temples, so make sure you visit a few!

HOW TO START PLANNING YOUR TRIP TO BALI

At VGB, we start planning all our trips, be it short weekend getaways in the USA or longer holidays to Bali using Expedia, our one-stop favorite tool to search for flights, hotel deals, car rentals, and even tours. Booking everything in one go means we get to save a ton of money on our trips, as well as find deals you wouldn’t find elsewhere.

WHERE TO STAY IN BALI

Even though Bali is an island, there are plenty of destinations you stay at for every type of traveler. Head to Ubud for all things culture, to Canggu for hipster coffee shops and beaches, Nusa Dua for beach resorts, Kuta to be where the best parties in Bali are, Tegalalang for endless rice fields or Uluwatu for the best surf vibes.

Depending on the length of your trip, we recommend picking a few stops and staying at different towns to get to know each area thoroughly. If you’ve only got a few days in Bali, then we’d choose to stay in a larger place like Ubud and take day trips.

Pro tip: Public transportation isn’t all that common in Bali, so renting a car is highly recommended to get around at ease.

Nusa Penida is one of the most incredible places to visit in Bali

TOP THINGS TO DO IN BALI

There is so much to do in Bali that we’d need to write an entire book on all the activities, but here are our top five favorites:

Visit Nusa Penida – Think paradise-like waters, endless hiking opportunities, and nature lodges that are the perfect setting for a relaxing yet adventurous respite. We loved visiting this incredible island and highly recommend spending at least a night here if time allows!

Explore Ubud – Ubud is a mecca for all things art and culture. No trip to Bali is complete without exploring the town’s temples, soaking in the cultural atmosphere, and exploring the town’s art market.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple – We fell hard for Bali’s most quintessential temple. Sitting to the side of Beratan Lake, the reflections of the temple on the water create a floating illusion that makes you feel as though you’re in a dreamy fantasy world.

Visit Bali’s famous waterfalls – Bali isn’t short of incredible natural landscapes, and its waterfalls take the cake. Take a day to explore a few of them! Our favorites are Sekumpul, Nungnung, Munduk and Git Git.

Explore Tegalalang Rice Terraces – Start the day at sunrise to explore one of Bali’s most iconic landscapes – the valley of rice paddies of Tegalalang!
