I want to start by saying this post is not sponsored, but Turo hit me up! I love their service. Since I wrote this post on how to make extra money everyone keeps asking me about Turo so I wanted to explain further. After about a year of just using Turo to rent a car, I decided to rent my car out. Yes, I was slightly terrified but it worked out perfectly. Super easy and the extra cash was pretty great too! Let me tell you how it works.
What is Turo?
Where local hosts provide you with the perfect vehicle for your next adventure
Turo is a car-sharing marketplace where guests can book any car they want, wherever they want it, from a vibrant community of local hosts across the US, Canada, the UK, and Germany. Guests choose from a totally unique selection of nearby cars, while hosts earn extra money to offset the costs of car ownership.
A pioneer of the sharing economy and travel industry, Turo is a safe, supportive community over 10 million strong with more than 350,000 vehicles listed and over 850 unique makes and models. Whether it’s a truck to help out on moving day, a Mercedes-Benz for a luxurious weekend away, or a classic VW bus for a picture-perfect road trip, Turo lets you book cars that are part of a story, not a fleet.
25% more affordable
Pay an average of 25% less than traditional rental companies when you book cars on Turo.
Cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your trip starts. Because life happens and it helps to be flexible when it does.
Convenient delivery options

Turo Go remote unlocking

Renting Out Your Car on Turo
I made $8,000 renting my car out with Turo. My car was only rented out 26 times in two years. Turo basically paid for my car which was awesome. I leased a Mercedes and only had to pay $1500/year for it, roughly $125/month. Turo paid for the rest. I’m a travel blogger so I’m not home much and when I am home, I don’t need my car every day so renting it out for 1-3 day spans once a month is not a big deal.
Turo handles everything from insurance to communications. If someone goes over on miles or doesn’t pay gas, Turo charges them. No need for you to be the bad guy. I have all 5-star reviews too!
Renting a Car Through Turo
On the other hand, you can also rent cars through Turo. When I travel, I’m carless. Usually, I don’t need a car for the entire 5-7 day trip but I’d like to go explore for maybe a day or two. Renting a car at the airport is time consuming, costly, and inconvenient. Insert Turo. Rent a car on Turo and the driver will deliver the car to you or you can choose to meet them at a pickup point. Easy peasy. Most everything is done through the app beforehand so all you need are the keys and you’re ready to go.
You’ll see instant savings renting convertibles on Turo vs at the airport or through a car rental company. The markups there are insane. Turo doesn’t have any hidden fees unless you go over on miles, so be aware of that. The inventory selection is also better on Turo. You can legit get any car you want. This trip to SF I’m thinking about booking the new Tesla!
When I was in SF I rented a car through Turo just to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge. I do this every year. It’s so worth it. Then you can drive around and explore all the other SF neighborhoods without having to use Uber or a taxi. Those rides add up. Last time I tried to show my husband SF we hit $100 in Uber rides and I was like wait a second, I’m ordering a Turo car. Yes, you can book instantly on some vehicles.
The rental process is super easy. You just take photos of the vehicle and they check that your license matches the booking name then hand the keys over. Some people can even unlock the car remotely so you don’t even have to see someone. It’s all done with the app. Very tech-savvy.
