How to kick ass at life: Life Lessons from my 20s

GUESS WHAT!?
Tomorrow is my Birthday!!!
Ermahgerd I’ll be 29!

I have one more year in my twenties!

I’ve learned a lot of lessons in my twenties and I’m totally ready for the rest of my life.  The best is yet to come…. right?

SO here they are….

1. Do what you want.  Be who you want.  Say what you want.
Don’t be afraid to say whats on your mind, be honest, say what you’re feeling.  It’s ok.  Who cares if people judge you.  It doesn’t matter.  It’s ok that you’re not married with kids immediately after college.  There is a lot of pressure, especially in the South.  But it’s. o. k. Do it on your own time and continue to be awesome at everything!

2.  Upgrade your wardrobe and makeup.
In your 20’s you go through college… stop wearing college clothes and buy some classy fashionable pieces.  Yes they may break the bank but they will last a lot longer than your Forever 21 top and you will look like a million dollars.  Never stop learning new makeup tips and tricks!

3.  Start a skin care routine.
Even though you’re not old and wrinkly the best time to start is NOW.  Get a killer face lotion and use that shiznit.  It will keep you looking young!  And on that note, stop tanning so much!  Spray tan. Not mystic, versa spa.  You’re welcome.

4. Don’t judge people.  Be kind.
Especially when you’ve never been in their shoes.  You never know what kind of battle someone is going through so just be nice.  This isn’t Mean Girls.  If someone needs help, help them.  Always take the high road.  If you help people get what they want chances are you will also get what you want.  Karma is good. And on that note, volunteer more!  It’s just good for your soul.

5.  Class
Technology is cool but it’s a disconnect to real life.  Put your phone away when you’re with people.  It’s rude.  Hand written thank you notes are lovely and special.  Christmas cards that come in the mail.  Gifts for friends or little things that remind you of them, house warming presents, host presents, thank you’s, bringing something with you when you come to someones house for a party.  Keep in touch with friends in real life not through Facebook.  Keep it classy San Diago.

Bottled? Boxed? You're not picky.

6.  Travel. Move. Explore.
Travel whenever you get the chance.  New places are fun!  Get out of your hometown bubble.  It builds character.  It’s good for you!  It’s amazing what kind of impact living somewhere completely new will have on someone’s life.  For me it was college in Tuscaloosa, Alabama a tradition that will live with me forever.  And living in San Francisco.  Two words. LIFE CHANGING.  Just do it.  I promise you will have a completely new outlook on life and learn something you had no idea even existed before.  It doesn’t have to be forever.  Even if it’s just a small trip.  Appreciate the world.  Step out of your box, your comfort zone when you get the chance. It builds character.

7. Friends really do come and go. Some come back.  Some don’t.  That’s OK.
Surround yourself with good honest friends and people that inspire you!  People come in and out of your life for a reason.

8. You don’t need anyone’s support to make things happen.  Just do it!
 As Miley says,
I can do anything, yeah
And I’ll do it on my own
I will get it done with the help from no one
I came into this world by myself
So I don’t need nobody else
We have just begun
So much to do, so young

Don’t be afraid of alone, you’ll get it done on your own!”

9. Be Passionate!
Passion can go along way.  Pick what you’re passionate about!
Read more, write more, travel more, love more.

10.  Hangovers get worse with age.
Slow down turbo.  You’re not 18 anymore and that will hurt in the morning.  Drink a glass of wine and call it a night. Brunch is your jam.  Welcome to classy day drinking with Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas.  Dump the beer and binge drinking.

You challenge everyone who says you can't drink at breakfast.

11. You can’t change anyone, don’t try.
They are called ex’s for a reason.  Stop going back.  Turn that circle into a line and let that one run off a cliff. The end.

12. Remember to have fun.
Playing on a play ground is still fun.  Even though I don’t quite have the same monkey bar skills I once had.  Smile. Play. Frollic.  You maybe an adult but have fun with this new set of adventures.

13. Don’t get caught up in Social Media.
It’s a front.  NO ONE is perfect.  Everyone has their own flaws and issues.  Only compare yourself to yourself.  Not to other people.  It’s good to deactivate your Facebook, get off Tinder, and Hinge, and Twitter, and just detach yourself for a little bit every now and then.  I mean aren’t you tired of wasting time looking at other people’s baby pictures anyways?  Yes.  Take a break.

14.  Make Money!
Never settle.  Always set goals and push yourself to be better.  Ambition is sexy.  The best things in life are free, the second best are REALLY expensive.  On that note, save money too. Pay off your credit cards every month.  Don’t fall into that trap.  It’s call interest and it will F you up!

15.  Trust People
Everybody lies sometimes and even though you’ve been hurt and screwed over in the past continue to trust people anyways.  But trust yourself first.  Trust your gut.  But trust people too!

16.  Don’t say yes to everything.
You can do anything just not everything.

17.  Be healthy
Fit is the new skinny.  Just be healthy for you and focus on your health.  Don’t pay any attention to those size 0 dresses.  Embrace you.  Accept you.  Love you.  And remember, You will ALWAYS feel better after you work out!  Being an adult is hard and your mom is probably not making your doctor apts anymore so don’t let your health slip by the waste side.  Go see a doctor, dentist, etc. Get it in. Take care of yourself.

18. Be HAPPY!
Be happy you took the road less traveled and keep looking for more!  Don’t sell yourself short.  Never settle. Stop complaining. Stop worrying. Just stop.  It won’t get you anywhere.  Just be happy where you are and know what’s meant to be will be.  Have faith.  Enjoy the now.  The journey.  Time goes by too fast to waste it worrying.

19.  Family is everything.
Appreciate them while you still can.

20.  Let it be.
Letting go is so much better than hanging on.  This applies to toxic friendships, broken relationships, clutter, stuff, stress, drama, anger, the list goes on.  Don’t let anything weigh you down.  Just. Let. It. Go.

Check back in tomorrow to help me with my 30 before 30 list!
