ATL EATS

Atlanta has become such a hot spot for trendy, new restaurants and I love it! My favorite thing to do is order a bunch of different dishes and share with the table. You get to try a little bit of everything. Here is a breakdown of some of the local Atlanta restaurants I’ve been to recently to help you get an idea for your next dinner out.

Gypsy Kitchen

Location: Buckhead
Ambiance: A+
Service: A –
Food: B –
Drinks: A

What I had? Shared the Cheese & Cured Meats, Tomato Fresco Spanish Style Toast, Chicken & Cauliflower-Serrano Ham Croquetas, Garlic Shrimp, Confit Spanish Octopus & Beef Tenderloin Tips.

What was the best thing? The ambiance of the restaurant and the location. My first experience at Gypsy, I loved all the food especially the octopus. The second time was disappointing except for the Croquetas and the Tenderloin Tips (but still a bit salty). Go for the atmosphere and drinks. Maybe the third time will be the charm.

Kimball House

Location: Decatur
Ambiance: A+
Service: A –
Food: A
Drinks: A +

What I had? Oysters, Fried Green Tomatoes, Pommes Macaire, & Halibut (Note: Menu changes daily)

What was the best thing? The food was excellent. I went out on a limb and got fish and I was pleasantly surprised. Service was excellent but I’ll say I had a hard time getting over our waiters slightly pretentious tone. Otherwise, it was great!

KR Steakbar
Location: Peachtree Hills
Ambiance: A –
Service: A
Food: B
Drinks: A

What I had? For appetizers, shared the Meatballs, Smoked Formaggi Fritters & Salumi Misti. For dinner, I had the Filet 6 oz and shared the Potatoes, Trumpet Mushrooms, Brussels Sprouts, and Asparagus.

What was the best thing? The cute flowerpots outside, just kidding but they were darling. The steak was delicious and the Smoked Formaggi Fritters and Meatballs were great. Other sides were okay.

10 Degrees South

Location: Buckhead
Ambiance: A
Service: A
Food: A
Drinks: A +

What I had: Lobster Spring Rolls, Boerewors Sandwich, Calamari,  & Sliced Rump Steak

What was the best thing? The bartenders are great – friendly and happy to make recommendations. I’ve never sat in the restaurant but the bar area is cozy and it’s not as fancy as what you would think. Great spot! I wasn’t disappointed in any of the appetizers I tried. I can’t wait to go back and try the two other spring rolls.
