Bora Bora is an island like no other, perfect for romance, relaxation and a tropical escape. While there, I felt as if I were in a completely different world, one where everyday worries, duties and negativity didn’t exist. You can just immerse yourself in Bora Bora’s otherworldly beauty, without a care in the world. I always remember my tropical escape to this out-of-this-world island with a smile on my face and peace in my heart.

What to do

Bora Bora is an island that exudes tranquillity, but still offers plenty of exciting activities to adventure seekers. I spent my days on Bora Bora exploring and admiring its natural beauties. A hike up to Mt Otemanu provided me with an opportunity to soak in Bora Bora’s mesmerising scenery of deep turquoise lagoons standing perfectly against the lushness of its forest. You can simply lose yourself in everything that surrounds you, savouring every minute of your time spent there. The peaceful waters of Bora Bora hide diverse fish species and live coral reefs that you can explore. I just couldn’t wait to dive back in, each time discovering something new and exciting hiding beneath the surface.

One of the best things about Bora Bora is its laid-back lifestyle that consumes you the moment you step on its soft sand. And there’s no better way to relax like an islander than by mingling with the welcoming locals. Other days, you can just relax at a beach and listen to the sound of waves with a cool drink in your hand.

Where to eat

The cuisine of French Polynesia is truly inspiring, featuring fresh produce and local ingredients. Each dish that I tried was a true gastronomic experience and, as an avid foodie, I do enjoy a great meal. The most authentic dining experience that you shouldn’t miss is eating at a local food truck called roulette. Here, you can have a taste of Bora Bora’s specialties at an affordable price. As for the restaurants, you can savour a local dish with a French twist and American flair at MaiKai. This restaurant offers a range of different, equally delicious options and all you need to do is follow your cravings. Mango and passionfruit cheesecake is a treat that you shouldn’t miss, trust me!

Another Bora Bora’s restaurant/bar that you must visit is Bloody Mary’s. This island-inspired hotspot has charmed me with its beautiful décor – sand floor, thatched roof and bar and stools made of trees all add up to its laid-back, tropical atmosphere. I ordered a delicious dish of fresh seafood along with the house cocktail Bloody Mary, a perfect combination that left me happy and satisfied.

Where to stay

This island’s accommodation certainly doesn’t lack in comfort, luxury and appeal, so you’re bound to live in the lap of luxury while there. I opted for an amazing Four Seasons Bora Bora package and each day I woke up in my overwater bungalow with an awe-inspiring view of the lagoon. This resort truly has a tropical, Polynesian vibe that will simply mesmerise you. Trust me, you’ll pinch yourself every morning just to make sure that you aren’t dreaming. Not only did I have a comfortable room, but I also had access to the pool, spa and tennis court. One of my favourite parts of Four Seasons was its Sunset Bar where I would order a refreshing cocktail and admire Bora Bora’s sunsets. Those of you who are planning a family vacation we’ll be glad to hear that the resort offers free childcare, so you’ll have an opportunity to discover why Bora Bora is an island of romance.
