Our Stay at Hotel Del Sol in San Francisco, CA (The Marina)

Hotel Del Sol was such a pleasant surprise. We felt like we had walked onto a movie set the second we stepped foot into the Hotel Del Sol.  Everything is decorated so cute with all the different brightly colored paint, huge wall murals, and fun mosaics from the backsplash at the front desk to the tables around the pool.  I loved everything! Blogger paradise. The Marina is a highly sought after area to live in San Francisco and because I used to live there, naturally I gravitate back to my old stomping ground. It’s my favorite place ever and I have so many fun memories there.  Plus the Marina up to Union Street has everything you could ever need so when you’re traveling in with no car, it’s very easy to walk to practically anything you need.  Also, the taxi and uber rides are pretty cheap if you’re not in the mood to walk.

That being said, the Marina is not on solid ground so there are no big hotels in that area.  The only places to stay are through Airbnb, a variety of motels/small boutique hotels, or a hostel. Even with those options you’re still looking at paying around $180 – $275/night but that’s not bad for that area.

Check out stay at Hotel Del Sol in San Francisco’s Marina District!

Hotel

Everyone at Hotel Del Sol was super friendly. They have refreshments out all the time and offer a complimentary continental breakfast. They have a pretty awesome lounging area in their courtyard that includes a hammock, astro turf to lounge, table and chairs perfect for reading a good book, and of course the heated salt water pool! The palm trees in the courtyard light up at night and stretch sky high. They really make you feel like you’re in California. Think kid friendly, California beach house. Even  pets are welcome at Hotel Del Sol! If you’re coming in with a car, no worries, there is inexpensive on-site parking which is unheard of in SF.

Rooms

This 1950s motor lodge turned boutique hotel in the perfect place to stay if you want to be in the Marina District. The rooms and bathrooms are not that spacious but that’s kind of what you’d expect for a motel in the Marina. However, I did read that their cozy hotel rooms come in all shapes and sizes. So if you need more space for the whole family, they offer rooms with adjoining rooms and suites. So you can get comfortable.

Food + Drink

There is no room service options but with all the restaurants you have within walking distance you’re not going to want to stay in your room.  I recommend Tipsy Pig, Pluto, Blue Barn, The Sandwich Spot, and basically anything on or around Chestnut Street.  The food in San Fran is beyond amazing. There are so many healthy options too! I love it.  If you’re super tired, you can always order in using an app like Grub Hub.

Amenities

There is complimentary wifi throughout the hotel, a major plus. An offsite fitness center. On site parking. A movie library. Afternoon cookies and milk. Laundry and dry cleaning available. It’s pet friendly, which I love! And what I found to be the most amazing offer was that they provide a complimentary morning town car service to the Financial District Monday – Friday 7am-10am!

My rent in SF used to be $6,000/month split 4 ways of course with a room mate living in the formal dining room using doors as a divider. Any chance I get to be back in my old neighborhood, I’ll always take it. I even ran into my old room mate walking along Chestnut while I was there. I’m obsessed, can you tell? Have you been to San Francisco? Where did you stay? What did you do? What do you love? Did I forget anything? Make sure to tag us online @VerbalGoldBlog or use hashtag #VGBsquad!
