Our Stay at Deer Valley Resorts Silver Baron Lodge in Park City, Utah

I’ve never been to Utah but after my first visit I must admit I can’t wait to go back again. Park City is beautiful and the town and slopes at Deer Valley are incredible! Totally different than any other ski town I’ve been to! First of all, the Deer Valley website is stunning. I mean it’s so informative and has tons of information like weather updates, condition of the slopes, and they live stream the mountain! Am I the only one who geeks out over stuff like that?

My husband was able to join me on this trip which was so nice. We stayed at Silver Baron Lodge, a part of Deer Valley Resorts, which was ranked number 1 ski resort in the world in 2017 by Ski Magazine. I’ve been to Tahoe, Colorado, North Carolina, and even Norway but I really…really… enjoyed skiing Deer Valley! It’s known to have The Greatest Snow On Earth® with an annual average of 300 inches blanketing Deer Valley’s six mountains – Little Baldy Peak, Bald Eagle, Bald, Flagstaff, Empire and Lady Morgan – offering a thrilling day for skiers of all abilities. If you’re looking for a great winter vacation, head out for ski season December 1, 2017 – April 8, 2018!

The great thing about Deer Valley is that it has the closest airport to the slopes out of all the ski destinations. Deer Valley Resort is nestled in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, just 36 miles east of Salt Lake City, in the historic mining town of Park City. Deer Valley is consistently ranked #1 in guest service among ski resorts in North America, as rated by the readers of SKI Magazine, and delivers an unmatched experience for your winter vacation. Details make a big difference, which is why Deer Valley offers first-class amenities such as uniformed ski valets, groomed-to-perfection slopes, award-winning cuisine, on-site child care and convenient lift, lodging and rental packages!

Combined with Deer Valley Resort’s large selection of hotel rooms, condominiums and private homes, Deer Valley’s collection of accommodations offers something to suit every traveler’s tastes and needs. We stayed at Silver Baron Lodge during our trip. It’s described as rustic meets refined elegance with the timber frame architecture, stone fireplaces and iron finishes. One thing I loved was the artwork along the walls that really captured the mining heritage of Park City. Silver Baron Lodge is conveniently located near the base of Deer Valley Resort. It’s so close you can see the skiers skiing down the mountain from your balcony.

Transportation

Once we landed in Salt Lake City, we were picked up at the airport by Country Limousine Service. Our driver was super helpful. He waited for us with a little sign in baggage claim and made us feel like a VIP. He helped with our bags, and then pulled the car around for us. He had water waiting and shared some fun Utah stories with us along the way. Once you get to the resort you don’t need a car so I would highly recommend hiring a car service to take you to Park City from SLC.

Cadillac sponsored the resort so anytime you need to go anywhere, you just text down to the front desk and they arrange a ride for you. These Cadillac SUVs are no joke either. They are straight luxury and make any ride extremely comfortable. Not only that but each of the drivers we had were so nice.

Each day when you’re ready to hit the slopes, there is a shuttle waiting for you out front that I believe runs all day every 15 minutes. You can walk to the slopes if you choose but sometimes with all that ski gear on, it’s just nice to be dropped off at the front. You can see both in the picture above.

Hotel + Rooms

The hotel was super close to the slopes and Main Street, which made everything super convenient. I can’t rave enough about how much we loved Silver Baron Lodge. First of all, if you watched my Instagram stories you saw that I was greeted with the warmest welcome….from a big 1 year old Bernese Mountain puppy that was the cutest and sweetest dog. I’m such a dog person so for me, I was done. Best welcome ever. Secondly, the staff was so accommodating and kind. We were shown to our spacious room that overlooked the slopes. It had a huge master bedroom and bathroom with ample counter space and a large shower with two rain heads. There was an open floor plan that had a full size kitchen, living and dining room with a large stone fireplace. Plus it had a laundry room to wash your sweaty ski layers. Though, my favorite part was the hot tub on our balcony. That ended up being our go to every night after we got back from the slopes.

You’re really able to kick back and relax here. The hotel also has a heated pool with two hot tubs and a water slide! A fire pit for making smore’s, and several indoor lounging areas with fireplaces burning to cozy up to. They serve cookies and hot chocolate daily which was so nice to come home to after skiing.

The property has rooms with up to 4 bedrooms so they can accommodate the entire family. My favorite room was the two story penthouse suite with a roof top sitting area around a fire pit, dining table, and hot tub. The master suite and living room both had balconies but the living room balcony also had a hot tub. This suite could sleep 14 people! There were tons of bedrooms and a huge kitchen, high vaulted ceilings and epic views. I can’t wait to go back and bring my friends and family so we can stay in that room!

Eats

Park City has no shortage of amazing restaurants. I’d say it’s quite the foodie town. Once we checked in we went straight to The Grocery Café, a quaint little café and grocery close the resort with epic views of the mountains. Plus, the food was on point. We had the turkey chili (which they’re famous for), a turkey panini, home made chips, with a giant chocolate chip cookie. Every. Single. Thing we ate was amazing. I grabbed some homemade fry sauce from the store and a few other treats for later.

The Brass Tag was another great place we dined at for happy hour and dinner, along with The Seafood Buffet, and Royal Street Cafe. The Seafood Buffet had a live harp player that played The Beatles Hey Jude and I was in heaven! They were all so delicious so I recommend making the rounds during your visit but if you want to go all out, Mariposa is a must. I highly recommend it. Mariposa is rated #1 in Utah by the Zagat Restaurant Guide for food and service and features an award-winning wine list. Our entire experience at Mariposa was first class. I had the Norwegian Halibut, fresh caught in Scandinavian waters, topped with steelhead roe, along side a sweet potato mousseline, roasted shallots, and red pepper coulee . They never serve anything frozen and always use fresh caught fish! For dessert we had adffogato espresso poured over chocolate covered ice cream which melted the chocolate and was an epic presentation. It was accompanied with gold dusted strawberries and I died. Delicious!

If you’re looking for a fun place to drink around Main Street then head to High West Whiskey Distillery. A great bar with tasty spirits. My husband was so stoked to go here and try their cocktails! I had The Last Run and he had Dead Mans Boot, both were so unique but obviously mine was my favorite.

As you walk along main street there are a ton of other restaurants to stop at and even my favorite chocolate shop, The Chocolate Factory, where I will always top and get an apple pie caramel apple. Mmmmm! Make sure to ask for it sliced (after you take your photo of course). There’s also the No Name Bar, Davanza’s, and Mountain Bagel which we were told to try!

One of my favorite finds and an epic photo opp is the Veuve Yurt. It’s a super dope place to grab a drink après ski and right outside of Montage so you can ski to it. It’s everything you’d imaged. Filled with buffalo plaid chairs with Veuve pillows, Veuve bottles, mailboxes, and basically everything Veuve. It was so much fun!

Speaking of things you can ski to, there are a lot of convenient places to grab lunch or a drink apres ski mid mountain and at the base. There’s a few that are buffet style but a la cart. Meaning you take your tray and can grab whatever you want from any station you want. I mean tacos, chicken fingers, salad, pizza, turkey chili, grilled cheese… so many options!

Activities

I’d definitely recommend walking around Main Street to do a little shopping. My husband and I had so much fun, especially when we found fur underwear. lol Make sure to stop by the sock factory for any type of sock you could ever want.

There are a lot of fun activities in Park City. Obviously, skiing being the one that draws the most interest but let’s not forget about tubing and snowmobiling! They have ski school, private lessons, and a full activity guide and event calendar. I found that Deer Valley was very beginner friendly. You can find the winter trail map here with all of the runs. I loved Deer Valley because even as a beginner you can ride the lift to the top of the mountain and take an easier run down. This was great as it allowed me to experience the entire mountain, other resorts I have visited only allow the beginner skier to access certain parts of the mountain.

For the guys, 1/2 miles radius around Park City there are 17 professional golf courses and 17 more probably coming in the next year. It’s the perfect climate for golf, you can play it almost every day…or so we were told by our driver. Most importantly, with the thin mountain air, you can hit 400 yard drives.

I went in the winter but they also have a huge list of fun summer actives too!
