What I Do With My Furry Friends Before My Next Trip

People always ask me what my husband Mike and I do with our dogs when we are traveling. Trust me, I wish I could take them with me every time I go but unfortunately, that’s not possible. If you don’t already know, I have two huge 70-80 pound dogs. Hartley is a 9 year old yellow lab who is the best dog in the entire world and basically speaks English. We also have a 3 year old Pit Bull boxer mix puppy named Griffey (after Ken Griffey Jr). Her full name is Kenzington Griffey Jr. haha. They are both really amazing dogs and we love them so much. You can find more of our pups on their own Instagram with the username @VGBdogs!
Traveling is the best and it’s part of my job. Luckily, I have some amazing parents that have a large fenced in back yard with a nice little waterfall and screened in porch that the dogs love. All I have to say is, “ready for grandma’s,” and the dogs go crazy just whining and spinning in circles by the door. They love it! There is tons of grass for them to run around and my mom throws the ball with them at least 3 times a day. Griffey does perimeter checks on the regular and just loves being outside. Meanwhile, you can usually find Hartley just laying at my mom’s feet on the screened in porch or rolling around in the grass.
I don’t want our dogs to get out of a routine, so on the way, Mike and I always stop at Walmart and grab their dog food for my parents. It fuels the wag! We choose Nature’s Recipe® Grain Free dog food. It’s made with real salmon, chicken, or lamb as the #1 ingredient and the dogs love the options. For 35 years, Nature’s Recipe has been crafting tasty, natural pet food with added vitamins, minerals & nutrients. You can check out their entire grain free portfolio here. Once the dogs hear me scooping up their dog food, they come running. Seeing them gobble up some good dog food makes me so happy!
I recommend packing an entire puppy pack or doggy daycare pack to have ready. We keep their leashes, treats, Nature’s Recipe dog food, toys, balls, more balls, the vet’s number, their personalized blankies and anything else we think they might need. Yes, our dogs are like our kids. Yes, our dogs are spoiled. No, we wouldn’t have it any other way. They deserve it. But our goal is for them to be comfortable while we’re away.
When our dogs get to my parents’ house, they run non-stop and play in their yard. They need a premium dog food that provides the nutrition needed to fuel their big life. It’s grain free and easy-to-digest, plus, there is no corn, wheat, soy, poultry by-product, or artificial flavors or preservatives and that makes me sleep easy while I’m traveling. Natural dog food is the way to go! I can’t imagine feeding my dogs anything less.
When you travel, what do you do with your dogs? What sort of routine do you have them in? Would you be open to trying a new premium grain free dog food for your furry family member? I think making the switch would be totally worth it and good for the pup!
