Our Stay at the 5 Star Luxury Boutique Hotel Château Eza, Cote d’Azur

Côte d'Azur chateau eza travel blogger france blog travel blog

The French Riviera is a beautiful place!  The views are simply breathtaking.  We visited Eze and stayed at the most amazing luxury boutique hotel tucked away at the top of a cliff.  It’s been known as one of the World’s Most Romantic Hotels and definitely held up to it’s reputation.  The Medieval village of Eze is situated on the Moyenne Corniche between Nice and Monaco. You can find it on a map here. Nice international airport is only 18 Km away and the exit 57 on the A8 is 5 km from the village.

Of all the hotels on the Cote d’Azur, Château Eza is the most stunning, with its Michelin starred gourmet restaurant and killer views. It’s truly one of the most enchanting locations on the Côte d’ Azur.  The 14 intimate rooms and suites of this 400 year old Chateau, also a former residence to a Swedish Prince, offer epic vistas over the Cote d’Azur, often from private balconies and terraces, as does Chateau Eza’s gourmet restaurant, itself overlooking the sun-kissed horizons of the French Riviera.

This is why you should stay at Chateau Eza!

Transportation

It’s pretty easy since the Nice airport is so small.  Just head outside once you get your bags and grab a cab.  Guys, the taxis here are the nicest cars I’ve ever seen for them being cabs.  I’m talking BMW, Mercedes and even a Maserati! The cab from the airport is around $65 euro. Once you get to Eze the hotel will call a taxi for you if you want to explore Monaco or the French Riviera. Most all of the cabs take cards but it’s a good idea to keep cash on hand just in case.  I do want to mention that in Paris taxi’s are fairly priced and you can get anywhere for around $10 euro but in Eze, and the French Riviera for that matter, cabs are way more expensive.  I mean it is the most expensive place to live in the world I believe.  Our taxi from Eze to Monaco was $50 euro (one way) just to go 6km.

If you’re feeling adventurous, there is a bus you can take from the airport.  There is also a bus stop at the foot of the hill that takes you to Monaco or Nice.  It goes along the French Riviera so you can explore all day! I think it’s less than 2 euros.  I’m not fluent in French nor am I confident with my public transportation skills so I opted for a driver.

Hotel + Rooms

The intimate château clings to the side of the ancient rock walls of Eze, a thousand-year-old medieval village more than 400 meters above the Mediterranean Sea.

The small luxury boutique hotel sits perched at the top of a rocky cliff. Your taxi will drop you at the base of the cliff while the staff member takes your bags. You’re then told to take your time making your way up the cliff to the hotel for check in. After a 10 minute walk up the cliff to check in you’re offered champagne on a private balcony over looking the French Riviera and then taken to your room up a few more flights of stairs. I was a little blown away and overwhelmed my first trek up the cliff side but by the second day I felt like a pro… a sore pro… but none the less it was becoming easier and easier each day. [Read: I ate every single french baguette that was offered to me] Winding through the narrow pathways up the cliff there are cute shops, restaurants, gardens, resting areas, and magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea along your walk.

Check out the walk to our hotel room!

This small luxury hotel is unlike any other and has numerous awards under it’s belt. The staff is extremely friendly and speak both English and French. The hotel Chateau Eza offers 14 luxurious rooms and suites, each of them uniquely designed in the tradition of the castle. We had 1 of 14 junior suites at the hotel with amazing views of the French Riviera.  Our room was a lovely lavender color with elegant furnishings and 4 windows including the sliding glass door that opened onto our private terrace and hot tub. The bathroom was completely updated with a rain shower head and a ton of counterspace. Every girls dream.

The only con was the bed and the height of the mirrors. I’m 5’9 so a little higher would have been nice but we were in a cave on the side of a cliff.  I adored the pink velvet headboard but the bed itself was probably the most unfordable thing since it was just two firm twin mattresses pushed together.  I’m sure it isn’t easy and after exploring Eze and walking up to the hotel a few times I understand the dilemma of having to bring a mattress up the cliff.

I think my favorite part was the evening tea service every night with a little golden box full of chocolate treats! I also loved the huge bowl of french baguettes and cheese every morning with the most amazing little fruit salad.  It’s the little things and Chateau Eza doesn’t miss any detail.

Where To Eat

Château Eza hotel offers a Michelin star gourmet restaurant serving à la carte French and Mediterranean cuisine against the stunning backdrop of the French Riviera. You can dine in the indoor glass-edged room with 180° panoramic views to fully enjoy the Riviera or on one of the several outdoor terraces, all overlooking the sparkling azure waters of the Cote d’Azur. I mean just check out this menu! It was also selected by the world’s top food critics and glam media foodie editors as a Foodie Top 100 Restaurant Worldwide!

You can also dine in your room and enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner, in a comfy robe overlooking the Riviera. There are also a few restaurants at the base of the cliff if you want to grab a quick pizza to go, or as the French say, take away pizza.

What To Do

First things first, jump in your hot tub with a glass of champagne and take in the breath taking views! There are so many cute shops and restaurants in Eze so on our first day we went exploring! I bought some handmade French jewelry and ate all the cheeses at a cute cafe. If you walk up the cliff a bit more to the gardens there are magnificent views at the tippy top!  There are some old castle remains that offer an amazing lookout point at the top of the cliff. Definitely instagram material!

I also recommend getting a massage while you’re there.  A massage therapist comes to your room since there is no on site spa. I frequently get massages back home so I have to brag because this massage was seriously the best one I’ve ever had in my life.  I need to get her name but she was legit!
