I have to admit, when I was in England I drank all the tea. I’m talking at every opportunity to have afternoon tea, I did. I’m slightly obsessed now. I am always looking for the best place to have tea when I was traveling so that’s why I made this list for y’all! If you enjoy a good traditional English afternoon tea as much as I do then you’ll love these three restaurants!

1. The Bar Convent Living Heritage Centre

17 Blossom Street

bar-convent.org.uk

open 10am – 4pm

Take afternoon tea in the garden or enjoy home-cooked food in the café. Explore the 300+ years of history in their new exhibition.

2. Earl Grey Tea Rooms

13-14 Shambles

open daily from 10am

In this most historic of thoroughfares, sit amidst oak beams and tapestries and enjoy hot buttered tea cakes, exotic teas and coffees, delicious cream scones, hot dishes and salads.  The quintessential English tea room and garden. High Teas has been a tradition there for over 30 years. The Shambles is one of the coolest places to visit in York so dining there is an experience in itself.

3. Afternoon Tea at The Grand

The Grand Hotel and Spa, Statin Rise

thegrandyork.co.uk

Presented on a silver stand in the relaxing tranquil environment of The Grand – nobody quite does afternoon tea in York like The Grand. Five-star elaborate Afternoon Tea is a feast for the eyes as well as taste-buds. Offering lovely views of the historic City Wall of York, the relaxing atmosphere coupled with attentive, unobtrusive service from their staff will all combine to provide you with an unforgettable dining experience. Enjoy the timeless tradition of Afternoon Tea. For an extra special touch, accompany with a flute of Champagne, Prosecco, or a tea cup of Hendrick’s Gin.

And because it’s famous I can’t end this post without mentioning York’s world-renowned tea room, Bettys Café Tea Rooms. Bettys is simply the place to sample a Yorkshire Fat Rascal and a ‘proper’ cup of tea. So although the line is usually wrapped around the building, if you have time try to stop in.
