Ohhhhhhhana! Wow, staying in this place is a gift any vacationer to the Big Island should experience. This private guest house allows you access to the world class Hualalai Resort and all of its amenities….. and with a golf cart!!! We enjoyed staying in this one suite that included two spacious closets, a master bedroom wth flat screen TV, large two sink bathroom with indoor rainhead shower and amazing rain head outdoor shower surrounded by palms, a kitchenette with mini fridge and microwave, lanai with grill, and a comfortable sitting area that also has a flat screen TV, all with air-conditioning! There’s even a makeup table or desk, whichever you prefer. And not to mention, wi-fi, a must for a travel blogger like myself! The outdoor shower brought Hawaii into the room and is so refreshing. I’m so spoiled now I never want to take an indoor shower again. The outdoor patio allowed us to make Hawaii our own, we grilled out multiple times although the resort dining was delicious as well. I just like that we had the option if choose to cook. The guest house can comfortably sleep a family of four but is also the perfect space for a couple trying to get the best out of Hualalai and the Big Island. My husband and I had a blast and felt like celebrities during our stay. Kind of easy to feel that way when you get the Four Seasons VIP treatment where ever you go and are surrounded by actual celebrities everywhere. I mean even Bill Clinton was there during our stay. Among others like Lionel Richie, Leslie Mann, Rob Lowe, Nicole Richie, Ed O’Neil, Judd Apatow, and John Lovitz.
The Ohana is a short drive or golf cart ride to the Hualalai Resort where you can enjoy the many activities and amenities. The award winning athletic spa, aquatic services, and the PGA Tour Champions Mitsubishi Electric Championship Hualalai Golf Course provide the ideal sporting mix for the Hawaiian vacationer. All these amenities come nestled between three pools, two beaches, a snorkeling pond full of 4,000 fish, and two restaurants. You’ll be able to make sure no two days are the same.
The Ohana isn’t just the best place for the perfect resort vacation, Hualalai puts you 20 miles north of Kailua-Kona. This means you are twenty minutes south of Waikaloa Beach and Village. You are 2 hours from Mauna Kea, the big islands highest point at over 13,000 feet, you drive through clouds to reach the peak and it’s breathtaking. The Ohana puts you about 30 minutes from the city of Kona, a must visit. Kona provides a beachy vibe with small town charm, grab some poke, Hawaiian shave ice, or the waves and call it a day. Hualalai is located 5 miles north of Kailua-Kona airport so it’s a quick and easy trip.
I would highly recommend booking your next Hawaiian vacation at The Ohana! Mahalo!

About the owner:
We built the main home in 1999. We have used the home for a vacation rental for the majority of the time that we have had the home. We have been coming to the Hawaiian Islands for over 28 years. The Hawaiian Islands were a special place for us and our children to visit and we have many fond memories of the kids growing up knowing that we would spend 8 weeks per year in the home vacationing. We love the Kohala Coast because it offers beautiful weather, complex views of black lava, striking green landscaping and endless views of blue water and beaches. The combination is so unique that we chose to move to the island permanently in 2011 and left the large home as a vacation rental. Now with the children off to college we have decided to move back into the main home but the Guest House is available for rent.
We chose this location on Pakui to build our home because we like to be close enough to the water to hear the surf and see the water but not so close that there are problems with the salt and wind. With the children, it was very important to be close to the hotel, spa and tennis courts. Pakui street is always full of other children and our children have made life-long friends at the resort that they would connect with every year.
The par 72 Jack Nicklaus golf course is home to the prestigious Mitsubishi Electric Championship. The course is a resort course with wide fairways and a beautiful finish along the ocean. The golf pros offer private lessons. The course starters put you at ease when teeing off for the first time. They can also give you advice about the course and with the computerized carts you will always know your distance.
The Hualalai Spa is one of the most lavish in the world with a menu of wonderful treatments, wet and dry saunas, hot tubs, with cold plunge. The sports club offers offer a wide variety of programs designed to meet all of your energy levels from Spinning, TRX, hot yoga and aqua-fit classes just to mention a few. The gym is equipped with state of the art workout and weight machines.
A residential concierge will assist you with travel plans including air transportation, dinner reservations, luxurious spa appointments, tee times and excursions.
Enjoy the beautiful scenic shoreline cart path where you can walk and enjoy the resting sea turtles. There are fantastic tide pools in front of the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai making it a great place to swim. The recent appearance of an endangered monk seal on our shore line and the whales for 4 months of the year are a real plus to our location.
The man-made King’s Pond offers a great place for children and adults to snorkel with and feed the Eagle Rays and tropical fish. There is daily Eagle Ray feeding.
Water sports include stand up paddle boarding, snorkeling, paddling in Hawaiian canoes, or an excursion on the ribcraft.
At the Kaupulehu cultural center the legacy of the site and culture is celebrated with programs designed to educate. Lei making, traditional hula, ukulele lessons, and Hawaiian arts and crafts are all available.
Resort Fees apply. Please inquire at the time of booking.
What makes this cottage unique
One of the unique benefits of this guest house over a hotel room is that breakfast and lunch can be prepared at the guest house minimizing the expensive food at the resort restaurants for these meals. Also as a hotel guest you do not have access to coolers, boogie boards and beach toys so it becomes very hard to enjoy all the beaches that Hawaii has to offer.
Also the guest house comes with it’s own golf cart so it is easy to get around the whole resort.
This set up provides the ideal vacation where the guests can use the Four Seasons facilities but also have all the equipment necessary to tour the island beaches and sight see.
