Our Stay at Hotel Zephyr in San Francisco, CA (Fisherman’s Wharf)

San Francisco california travel blogger hotel zephyr

Our stay at Hotel Zephyr in San Francisco was so much fun!  It’s one of the most unique boutique hotels I’ve ever stayed in and the only upscale waterfront boutique hotel in San Francisco.  I loved everything about it.  Hotel Zephyr definitely didn’t disappoint. It’s centrally located so you’re close to Pier 39 and all the fun in the Wharf. If you’re looking to stay in the Fisherman’s Wharf or even just close to the Marina in San Francisco, you should definitely consider staying at Hotel Zephyr. It’s definitely the place to be!

Hotel Zephyr was even named the Conde Nast 2016 Readers Choice Awards Winner! The ideal location also makes it the closest property to Pier 39 for world-class shopping, entertainment and dining. It is within walking distance to the Alcatraz ferries and Ghirardelli Square; close to many convenient transportation options, including the famous San Francisco cable cars!

Check out our stay at Hotel Zephyr!

Hotel

The hotel reminded me of a hostel in the sense that there are a lot of fun things you can do on the property that allow you to get to know your neighbors. Hotel Zephyr is a very playful and interactive hotel. Hotel Zephyr has a courtyard in the middle of the hotel that is perfect for mingling with guests or if you just need a break and wanted to step out of your room.  You can head down to the courtyard and play games, relax, and have a drink or to eat.  They provide a life-size connect four, tons of fire pits with comfortable lush chairs, shuffle board, and so much more! In the heart of the courtyard you’ll find San Francisco’s largest periscope! Trust me when I say this thing is giant – like 3 stories tall! There is even a food truck in their courtyard where you can get coffee, cocktails, or food. Just inside the courtyard in the game room, there is an interactive art exhibit and even more games you can play like pool and ping pong! It’s a great adult playground.

I’m a huge fan of the industrial design and this hotel nailed it. The shipping containers serve as walls, dividers, and decoration throughout the hotel alongside giant relaxing portholes.  They have some amazing statues in the courtyard and these huge cement pipes that serve as amazing Instagram photos and a fun tunnel to play in with your kids. My favorite aspect of the design was the garage door simply because I’ve always wanted one in my home. During the day, the hotel opens it for an inside/outside feel that greatly extends the hotel lobby.

Rooms

The rooms were pretty spacious for San Francisco with a balcony that overlooks the bay and Alcatraz. I loved that the hotel had extra outlets everywhere for your convenience.  It’s perfect for travel bloggers with a lot of gear and electronics to charge. There was great desk space, which included a pin board above the desk, a mini fridge, smart tv, loads of drawers and closets to store your clothes, and even more games to play in your room like backgammon and darts!  Awesome!!

Food + Drink

Located in The Yard, the hotel’s popular creative outdoor space, The Camper is a quick-serve food and beverage stop serving sustainable, locally-sourced cuisine paired with craft beers and California wines. The Camper is open to guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and also offers all event space catering.

There wasn’t a lot of room service options,  but with local favorites close by and the use of Grub Hub (a food delivery app) we were totally content on ordering in or going out to eat.  There’s even a Walgreens at the end of the block that has a lot of pre packaged food options and fresh fruit. We stocked up on water and fruit for our mini fridge.

Want to eat like a local? Clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl is a must when you stay at the Fisherman’s Wharf. You can head to Boudin’s or grab chowder from any of the walk up restaurants or crab stands at the Wharf.

Here are a few favorites:

  • Boudin Bakery (across the street)
Known for it’s sourdough bread, Boudin’s offer catering, takeout, Bakers Hall marketplace, and Bistro Boudin with full bar.
  • Cafe Pescatore ( one block away)
Classic North Beach trattoria featuring seafood and Italian favorites.
  • Fiddler’s Green Irish Pub (three blocks away)
Local’s favorite serving burgers and brews.
  • Hot Spud (adjacent to the hotel)
Specializing in baked potatoes, Hot Spud is a popular option for innovative cuisine.
  • Fog Harbor Fish House (0.2 miles)
Boasting spectacular bay views from Pier 39, this environmentally conscious restaurant serves some of the freshest seafood around.
  • Pier Market (0.2 miles)
Focusing on sustainable food sourcing, Pier Market is a family-owned restaurant that has been voted “Best Seafood in San Francisco” multiple times.
  • Restaurant Gary Danko (0.3 miles)
Sophisticated contemporary cuisine. Reservations Required. This restaurant is FIRE! Reservations don’t come easy and the price tag (think a couple hundred dollars for two) is high but it’s worth it.
  • Hana Zen (0.2 miles)
Japanese specialties including sushi, yakitori and sake.

Amenities

Fitness Center

Workout along side Popeye in the on site 24 hour fitness center. Equipped with premium LifeFitness® machines and an assortment of free weights for cardio and strength training. Feel free to do yoga, meditation, or core training, in the courtyard while enjoying San Francisco’s beautiful weather!

Wifi + Tech Friendly

All guest rooms and common areas throughout the hotel have access to both standard WiFi service as well as premium WiFi with upgraded speeds—available free of charge to guests who book directly with Hotel Zephyr. There are also Bluetooth-enabled desk clocks which allow you to stream audio wirelessly from your own personal device, as well as USB charging ports in every room. You also have access to the 24 hour business center located in the lobby.

Pet Friendly

I’m so impressed with the weight limit on their pet friendly rules. They are so accommodating! For a small $75 cleaning fee you can bring all fur-babies up to 80 lbs.

Parking

Hotel Zephyr offers valet and self parking options for $50/night.  Of course if you’re just flying in, you’re probably going to do a lot of walking so for those “exploring” days I recommend using a service like Turo to rent a car for a day. You can rent a car for as low as $15/day. Get $25 off your first trip here.
