10 Photos to Inspire You To Visit Athens, GA

As much as the VGB squad loves Atlanta, sometimes we want to venture out into other areas of Georgia. I’ve never been to Athens, GA before and decided to take a Spring weekend getaway to check it out. Athens is the home of the University of Georgia and is full of unique and quirky shops, restaurants, and things to do! I’ve always heard great things about how much fun Athens is, so I decided to plan a weekend road trip to explore the city and find the best things to see and do!

Athens is full of so much amazing street art and murals! Just walking around downtown is enough to make you love this little college town. It’s full of old renovated buildings like the Georgia Theatre that are beautiful with a ton of character. Also there are a ton of restaurants and bars to choose from within walking distance, so what else could you possibly need?!

Athens has its share of great restaurants for every meal. We loved the pastries and cozy atmosphere at Big City Bread. We tried just about every pastry they had, only so we could share our favorites of course! The fruit tart and flourless chocolate stars were absolutely amazing. You really can’t go wrong with any options on the menu.

Plus, Athens has great shopping and tons of variety from cute trendy boutiques like Cheeky Peach, to cool vintage stores like Atomic Vintage. You’ll be sure to find some unique items regardless of where you shop. You can’t go to Athens and not visit one of the local breweries. We stopped by Creature Comforts for an afternoon beverage and loved the large open space. Everyone was super friendly and they have a large outdoor area too to accommodate the busy crowds on game day weekends.
