The Gold Standard // Savannah

Savannah is one of the most beautiful cities in the South, with Spanish moss and porched houses around every turn. Savannah is all about attitude and atmosphere with tons of history, the city has magnificent 18th- and 19th-century architecture and miles of untouched marshland. There were so many tours going on as we were walking the streets. I don’t know what it is about those tours but I’ve never been on one nor do I have any desire to do so. I like to explore by myself and meet the locals, not hang out with a bunch of tourist. But.. maybe one day. Not only are there historic tours but there are a ton of ghost tours like Colonial Park Cemetery, Bonaventure Cemetery ( where the book and movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was set), and the Mercer Williams House.

Going to Savannah and want to know what to do?  Here are a few things I recommend…

Sightseeing is the best here just remember to wear comfortable shoes since most all walkways are made with cobblestone and since they are old it’s very uneven!

A few suggestions #mustsee include // River Street // Savannah’s Squares (the bench where Forrest Gump sat) // Bluff Drive // Wormsloe Plantation Historic Site // Forsyth Park // Fort Pulaski National Monument // Tybee Island Light Station

An obvious must see (because it’s pink duh) is The Olde Pink house! Because who doesn’t love a pink house!  #happyhouses  Raise your hand if you were ever a girl scout?  Yep, me too.  So in that case, I’d definitely go check out the birthplace of Juliette Low.  Which is right next to Wright Square!

Just remember to check the weather before going because Savannah in the summer is HOT and muggy and steamy.  So hang by the river to get a nice breeze and grab a frozen drink or ice cream to cool off.

Savannah is known for it’s St.Patricks Day parade when they turn the river green.  So if you’re looking for a calm weekend steer clear of St.Pattys Day.

I hope y’all enjoy the sites, history, and exploring Savannah!  I know we did!
